Food safety is a top priority – throughout the entire shelf life.
Special packaging is required when goods are cooked or preserved in their packaging by pasteurisation or sterilisation: Retort films.
In order to meet the high requirements such as temperature and pressure resistance and, in some cases, resistance to acids or other aggressive substances, the packaging undergoes a special treatment during production. This makes the laminates more resilient.
While sterilization completely eliminates microbial life by reaching temperatures above 121°C, pasteurisation typically reaches temperatures between 60 and 100°C. By doing so it reduces the microbics significantly and slows down their growth rate, thus prolonging the shelf life.
Typical products are ready-to-eat meals, soups, sauces, pet food, but also fruit compotes or sports drinks.
Almost all tightly sealed formats are suitable. The most popular flexible packaging formats for retort applications are trays, flowpacks and stand-up pouches. Important to know: to withstand the heat and pressure applied during the retort process highly performant and tailored packaging films must be used.
adapa’s experience with existing customers and regular professional checks ensure the reliable performance of the films.
